The Poetry Curriculum
This site contains the files created by the Literacy Design Team for the K-5 Poetry Units presented in June, 2007.
The first of the three files states the Mamaroneck UFSD Literacy Goals as well as reading and writing goals for the teaching of poetry. The second file contains an overview of poetry teaching K-5 so you can see the spiraling of skills. The third file is a glossary of poetry terms, referred to in the study.
To access any of these files, click on the file you want. You’ll be prompted to enter your name, password (whatever you use on your computer now) and the domain (use alpha\). For example:
User Name: alpha\<your username>
Password: <your password>
You can print out or download any of these files.
In addition, each grade level tab above leads to a page containing the required grade level objectives, a suggested scope and sequence, sample minilessons, a blank minilesson template, and copies of sample poems referred to in the unit. Just click on any tab to go to that page.
In the spring of 2007, students from kindergarten to fifth grade shared their poetry and their thoughts about poetry. Watch the 25-minute video here.
